NEW OPPORTUNITIES for Postdoctoral Research Fellows 

The Scientific Computing Research Unit (SCRU) invites highly motivated individuals to apply for a Genetics Postdoctoral Research Fellowship to be part of a multidisciplinary team investigating a gene expression cancer biomarker.

Scope of research:

The successful applicants will perform research in the area of RNA extraction from blood samples and sequencing as part of a multidisciplinary team developing a non-invasive early detection system for breast cancer. The candidate will be stationed in the Division of Human Genetics at UCT in the faculty of Health Science and be expected to work closely with a international collaborating NGS technology company.

Applications for the 2017 Academic year is open for Masters and Doctoral Students and for Postdoctoral Research Fellows. 

Entry into the SCRU graduate programme is through a Masters degree.  Only students with an Masters degree in Scientific Computing are accepted into the Doctoral programme. There are a limited number of Post Doctoral Research Fellowships are available.

We welcome applications from 2nd and 3rd year students who wish to undertake a vacation internship.

The appropriate online application form must be completed if you wish to join one of these programmes of study, unless otherwise stated there is no formal closing date for applications.

For full time postgraduate studies (Masters and Doctoral) at the Scientific Computing Research Unit, please complete a Postgraduate Degree Application Form.

Co-Supervision

Collaboration Projects

For students who are registered/in the process of registering in areas other than Scientific Computing but wish to add a Computational Component to their postgraduate research. A 50% payment of bench/workstation fees is the responsibility of the principal investigator hosting the collaborating co-supervised student/postdoctoral fellow.

For students/postdoctoral fellows/academics who wish to add a Computational Component to their research as part of a collaboration with a SCRU staff member. Note the payment of bench/workstation fees is the responsibility of the principal investigator hosting the collaborating student/scientist.
